Gatehouse of Cheylesmore Manor - history

Cheylesmore Manor was inherited by the crown, when Queen Isabella gained the rights of the manor from the previous owners. Her grandson Edward, the Black Prince was later said to have lived here. Remains of the manor house survived until the Second World War, and was later demolished in 1955.

The Gatehouse though survived the Coventry Blitz. Parts of it dates to the 14th, 15th and 16th centuries. It was fully restored during the 1960s, and formed part of Coventry Register Office which opened in 1965. The restoration of the gatehouse was completed by 1968.

It has been a Grade II* listed building since 1955. The register office is the perfect place for weddings, and the Manor Yard is the perfect place for your wedding photos.
