Coventry Building Society Arena, originally known as the Ricoh Arena, is a stadium in the City of Coventry. It was the home ground of Coventry City FC, and Wasps RFC.

In brief

The Ricoh Arena was built and opened in 2005 to be the new home of Coventry City Football Club (who were moving out of their old stadium Highfield Road). It had the Ricoh name and sponsorship deal until 2021. Since they a new sponsorship started and it has been named the Coventry Building Society Arena. Coventry City FC had multiple stints here (from 2005 onwards), and Wasps Rugby Union Football Club was based here from 2014 until 2022 (until they went into administration).

CBS Arena - details

The stadium was built and opened in 2005 to replace Coventry City FC's original home of Highfield Road.

It was called the Ricoh Arena from opening in 2005, until the end of the sponsorship deal in 2021.

During the London 2012 Olympic Games, it was temporarily renamed to the City of Coventry Stadium, and during the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games to Coventry Stadium.

A railway stadium was later built and opened next to the stadium, called Coventry Arena Station by 2016.

Due to financial difficulties (rent issues etc), Coventry City FC have had three stints at this stadium, from 2005 to 2013, then 2014 to 2019 and 2021 to present.

The stadium also became home to Wasps RFC from 2014, who moved from London, at one point they owned half of the stadium, but they moved out in late 2022 (due to going into adminstration).

The stadium has been used for other sports as well as International football (under 19 and under 21 teams), for tennis, darts and Rugby League matches.
